And welcome to the last pre-Christmas post at your fabric painting meeting point, Your Colourful Mind.
Fabric painting bags give my Christmas presents a personal touch
Last week I used fabric painting to decorate some tote bags which I will use as a kind of special wrapping paper for the presents I bought for my sisters. I used the same technique for all bags, a very simple one, but each bag looks a bit differently.
I knew that I would not have much time and, of course, I didn’t want to spend much money on my gift wrapping idea. I decided to use simple tote bags.
On the front I could paint a little picture, and use the back to write down my Christmas greetings.
I used fabric sprays, a black textile marker, and a simple stencil which I had bought some time ago in the children’s’ department of an arts & crafts shop (that’s my favourite area for shopping fabric painting equipment).
First I placed the stencil for the front side picture on the bags. I used different colours of fabric spray to create the background, just by spraying around the stencil. Then I had to let it dry for some hours.
The next step was to use the stencilled outline to create some simple drawings. This was definitely not an artistic activity but it was fun. 🙂
On the back of the bags I didn’t spray much, I only wanted it to be a little bit more colourful.
I finished by writing a personal greeting on the bags’ back side.
This was thought to be a simple and quick project, and it was simple. It took a bit longer than I had calculated because between the different steps I had to wait to let the colour dry. The spraying was fun and I also enjoyed using my simple stencil.
I hope you enjoyed reading this little report on some very simple fabric painting designs.
