How can you create batik effects with fabric spray paint? – Just fold your fabric item and then play around with your spray paints!
Dear friends of Your Colourful Mind,
Today we’ll continue our little series of fabric-painting project presentations which focus on using spray-painting techniques.
For today’s project, we don’t need any tools or materials – just spray paint.
Spray-painting projects – Part 3
Creating batik effects with fabric spray paints
The following project is one of those which are not so easy to finish. That’s because it’s so difficult to decide when to stop.
You again and again ask yourself: will another round of spraying make the result look even nicer? Or will it destroy what I’ve achieved so far?
The technique I applied this time is extremely simple: just folding a T-shirt and then spraying paint over it.
However, the results of this type of projects are unpredictable – you’ll never know what to expect when you unfold the fabric after the spraying.
I started by folding the T-shirt, in a two-step process.
Then I sprayed over it.
The result was a bit disappointing: only one side of the T-shirt had been covered by small amounts of paint.
So I continued folding and spraying …
… and folding and spraying – now with a lighter colour.
When I now unfolded the T-shirt, it looked much better. I wasn’t sure: should I continue spraying or should I finish the project?
I decided to do another round of folding and spraying:
This time I was much more impressed about the sprayed design when I unfolded the T-shirt.
I asked myself, ‘Shall I stop now?’
The answer was yes. 🙂 This is the final result:
